Zencrack is a state-of-the-art software toolfor 3D fracture mechanics simulation. The program interfaces tocommercial finite element codes to allow calculation of fracturemechanics parameters such as energy release rate and stressintensity factors. This is achieved by automatic generation offocused cracked meshes from uncracked finite element models. Inaddition, a crack growth methodology is included that providesnon-planar crack growth prediction for fatigue and time-dependentload conditions via automated adaptive meshing techniques.Thesecapabilities can be applied to a wide range of problems andindustry sectors. Surface cracks and embedded defects can beanalysed. Existing defects in components can be modelled and theirremaining life calculated. This must be generated by the user with their standardpre-processing tools for the particular finite element package thatthey use. Zencrack then inserts one or more user-specified cracksinto the mesh. A cracked mesh is created and submitted to thefinite element code for analysis. Results of the finite elementanalysis are automatically extracted
